Beat the Heat

In Queensland, there’s really no such thing as Spring. Instead, we seem to have a few weeks of not-quite-Summer before barrelling into heatwaves, burning hot driveways, and just generally living in an oven. Luckily, there’s lots you can do to beat the heat around the house, and that’s what we’re looking at today.

Let There Be Shade

If you have a bit of a green thumb, look at installing some palms or hedges in your backyard. There’s several low-maintenance varieties on offer, and they’re a great natural way to bring the temperature down. Of course, if gardening’s not your thing, you can also look at some lightweight tarps or even a large umbrella as a quick and collapsible way to stay out of the sun.

Versatile Ventilation

Getting some cross ventilation going is a free and easy way to keep your house cool without having to use the air conditioning. Basically, if you open up a window or door, make sure you open one on the other side of your house as well, allowing air to flow through and create a natural breeze throughout your home.

Get the Look

Spring (or Summer) is a great time to take a look at bringing a new look to your home. It doesn’t have to be a big renovation, just look at maybe getting rid of some heavy carpets or dark curtains. Even small changes can quickly add up, dropping the mercury and making your home a cooler, calmer place to while away the hot days.

While Queensland’s not going to see snow any time soon, you can still find lots of ways to keep chilled over the coming months. We’re always looking at new ideas, so make sure you check us out every week to see what’s new!
