What Are You Looking For?

It’s all very well and good to say you want to buy a house, but you also need to know what you want before you get started. Making the decision to buy is such a big one that a lot of people don’t even think about what they’re actually looking for, which is why today we’re giving you a simple three-step checklist to follow so you know you’re making the right choice.

Step 1 – Look Around

The first thing you should always do is look around at a few different houses. You might think deciding on a budget should come first, but there’s no point in picking a number if you don’t know what it will get you.

Check out a few open homes at a few different places to get a feel for what you want, and then see what matches your price range.

Step 2 – Really Look Around

After you’ve seen a few different houses, you should have a pretty good idea of what house you’d like to live in. Now it’s time to look at location. It’s a real estate cliché, but location really is what matters.

Think about what you want to do with this property, whether you want to raise a family (are you close to a good school?), downsize (is it easy-access?), or just relax in the suburbs (is it a quiet spot?), and look around to see what’s suitable.

Step 3 – Money, Money, Money

Now that you’ve got a good idea of where you want to be, it’s time to start looking at a budget. Again, you might think you should do this earlier, but if you tie yourself to a specific number at the start, you’re already cutting yourself off from a range of properties that could be more affordable than you think.

With that being said, it’s good to set a firm upper limit you know you can afford, and start looking a little below to find your dream home.

No matter what you’re after, the first step should always be to look around and see what’s on offer. We host a wide range of properties for open home inspections throughout the week, so be sure to check out our catalogue to see what’s on!
